Fact or Fiction: Breaking in Your New Engine

Fact or fiction? You should run your new Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel at light loads to allow the engine to “break in.”

That statement is fiction. The Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel does not require a light-load run-in period. Operating at light loads actually extends the amount of time your Turbo Diesel requires to achieve its full level of efficiency. With current manufacturing quality, your new Cummins Turbo Diesel is ready for loaded operation right out of our manufacturing plant. The mating parts in the engine should achieve final finish and fit during the first 6,000 miles with properly loaded operation. After the run-in period, you should achieve optimum power and fuel economy from your Turbo Diesel.
